Tiny footprint, big vision: inside the Alexandria project by CplusC Architects + ALumac

2C Philips St, Alexandria, NSW Custom aluminium window shroud installed at architectural tiny home in Sydney.

2c Philips St, Alexandria is the kind of tiny site that makes you wonder what’s possible. But the location is exactly where people want to be, tucked into Alexandria with everything inner Sydney has to offer on the doorstep.

Principals Clinton Cole and Loretta Law work together at the helm of CplusC Architects. Maximising constrained spaces and choosing materials that do real work: that’s what their practice is built around. This Alexandria project shows both in full.

Making the most of a tight site

Working with a constrained inner-city footprint means every decision counts. Clinton and Loretta used custom metalwork to define the building’s character without adding bulk.

Our contribution: custom cicrular and triangular 6mm aluminium Modline shrouds, uniquely angled Centurion window shrouds, fully welded, and 6mm aluminium planter boxes fitted to the walls and above the timber cabinetry and doorways throughout. The aluminium is left unpainted, a deliberate choice that lets the material hold its own alongside the timber.

Two finishes, two personalities

The colour story does a lot of work here. Street-facing window shrouds are finished in Satin Night Sky, a deep black that grounds the exterior and reads cleanly against the streetscape.

Inside, the mood changes. Electro Gold Pearl Kinetic Flat, a standard Dulux powder coat colour, brings warmth and depth to the interior metalwork. It works with the timber rather than fighting it.

The project is soon to be featured on an upcoming episode of Grand Designs Australia. More details to come…
