Introducing the 2kW Laser Welder

High quality and ultra efficient laser welding is now available in Sydney at up to 5 times the speed of conventional TIG welding with the introduction of our 2kW laser welder.

What is laser welding?

Laser welding is a welding process that utilises a highly concentrated beam of light energy, known as a laser beam, to weld or fuse metals together. The beam is generated by a laser source and focused onto the metal using various optical components.

The intense heat generated by the laser beam melts the metal, creating a weld pool, which solidifies to form a strong and durable bond as it cools.

Laser Welding benefits

Laser welding¹ offers several advantages over traditional welding methods.

Control

It provides precise control over the heat input, allowing for accurate and efficient welding of even intricate and delicate components. The focused laser beam not only produced welds faster, but of  high strength and durability.

Laser welding also minimises the heat-affected zone, reducing the risk of distortion or damage to surrounding materials.

Speed and Productivity

Laser welding can be performed at high speeds, significantly increasing productivity compared to conventional welding techniques. It offers excellent repeatability and consistency, ensuring consistent quality in welded joints. Laser welding can be applied to various materials, including metals and alloys.

Applications

Overall, laser welding is a versatile and efficient welding process that offers high precision, speed, and quality, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, such as:

  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Aerospace
  • Government
  • Rail
  • Electronics
  • medical devices, and more.

Reduced production costs

Significant production cost reductions resulting in lower labour expenses and decreased consumption.

Safety

Alumac has a dedicating welding room setup and specifically designed for laser welding safety. The enclosed space offers a safe welding environment for our skilled tradespeople, where no reflected light can escape.

Key Facts at a Glance

To summarise, laser welding offers the following benefits:

  • Typically, the speed of laser welding is up to 5 times faster compared to TIG welding.
  • Laser welding is more cost-effective.
  • Minimised heat affected zone, discoloration, and the need for rework/finishing in most cases.
  • Minimal sparks, spatter, and lower fire hazards.
  • Reduced consumption of consumables and gas due to faster welding.
  • No requirement to remove galvanising before welding; the laser welder removes it as necessary.
