What are the Most Common Metal Fabrication Processes?
There are three main metal fabrication processes, cutting, bending (folding) and assembling.

Cutting
There are several methods used to cut metal, depending on the properties of the metal and the desired outcome.
Laser cutting
The first step in the metal fabrication process is to cut the material to length or lengths. Laser cutting is achieved using two types of laser, each with different benefits and uses.
- Fibre Laser – the preferred choice for cutting metals that thicker and/or are yellow, such as brass and copper.
- CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Laser – ideal for cutting stainless steel and aluminium.
Using CNC numerical control machinery offers superior results, allowing the highest degree of accuracy and a burr-free edge, even on thicknesses up to 20mm mild steel.
Bending and Folding
We bend using a Synchronised Hydraulic Press Brake, with the main benefits being speed and accuracy, where the metal is first clamped and then forced into the required shape.
Assembling
Once the cut and/or fold process is complete, assembly may be required. The most common assembly processes we use to assemble metal parts are MIG/TIG welding, studs and riveting.
Depending on the type of metal or join required, we use a variety and mix of assembly techniques.
